Tooth Extractions
When a tooth has to come out,
we make it as easy as possible.
Dr. Sanie only recommends extraction when there’s no better way to protect your overall health. When that day comes, you’re in calm, careful hands.
Reasons we may recommend removal
- A tooth that’s broken below the gum line and can’t be rebuilt
- Severe decay or infection that a root canal cannot reach
- Advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth from its support
- Crowding that needs to be relieved before braces or Invisalign
- Wisdom teeth that are impacted, infected, or pressing on neighbors
Comfort comes first
We numb the area thoroughly before any instrument touches your tooth, and we’ll wait until you’re fully comfortable to begin. If you’re anxious, ask about nitrous oxide — it takes the edge off in seconds and wears off before you drive home. Most patients tell us afterwards that the visit was easier than they expected.
Healing at home
You’ll bite gently on gauze for about 30–60 minutes after the appointment to let a clot form. Stick to soft foods for a day or two, skip straws and smoking (both can dislodge the clot), and rinse with warm salt water starting 24 hours after. We’ll send you home with written instructions and a number to reach us if anything worries you.
Replacing the tooth
Most teeth are best replaced — the empty space can lead to neighboring teeth shifting or bone loss in the jaw. At the extraction visit we’ll talk through your options, which usually include a single-tooth dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture. There’s no rush; we’ll give you the information and the timing is yours.
