Emergency Dental Care

A dental emergency is any situation that poses an immediate threat to the health of your teeth and supporting tissues.

Emergency Dental Care

At Culpeper Dental Care, we know that dental emergencies can be stressful and overwhelming. Our team is ready to assist you through any dental crisis.

If you're experiencing a dental emergency, please contact us immediately. We offer same-day emergency services for most conditions and strive to see you as soon as possible.

Some dental emergencies may not cause pain initially but can lead to serious issues if left untreated. Therefore, the following conditions require immediate attention, regardless of pain:

- Broken, cracked, or chipped teeth
- Lost crown
- Significant sensitivity
- Severe toothache
- Infection
- Swollen or sore gums
- Jaw pain

If you have a dental emergency outside our normal business hours and have been treated in our office before, please call us immediately. We are here to help with any severe dental emergencies, including significant infection, pain, or trauma.

If a tooth is knocked out, quick action is crucial. For permanent teeth, rinse the tooth and place it back in the socket. If you can’t reinsert it, keep it moist in milk, water, or saliva. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the roots, and do not brush it.

Contact us right away for information and emergency treatment.

For baby teeth that are unexpectedly knocked out, leave them out and contact the child’s dentist immediately for guidance.

While waiting for care, you can manage pain with these home remedies:

- Warm water rinses for sore teeth and gums.
- Over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
- Ice packs applied to the outside of the cheeks.
- Dental anesthetics containing benzocaine, used as directed.
- Avoid hot and cold beverages and foods to reduce sensitivity.
- Use heating pads for jaw pain.
- Avoid chewing on the injured area.
- If a broken tooth has a sharp edge, place cotton over it to protect soft tissues.

We are here to help! Please contact us if you have any dental emergency.
