Fluoride Treatment

A small step
that strengthens your enamel.

Professional fluoride is one of the simplest, best-studied tools in dentistry. A few minutes at the end of your cleaning can meaningfully reduce your risk of new cavities.

What fluoride does

Fluoride strengthens the enamel — the outer layer of your teeth — by helping it absorb minerals back into spots where acids from food and bacteria have started to weaken it. It can actually reverse the earliest stages of decay, before a cavity ever forms.

Who benefits most

  • Children and teens whose adult teeth are still maturing
  • Adults with a history of cavities, dry mouth, or exposed root surfaces
  • Patients in Invisalign or braces, where cleaning is harder
  • Anyone going through chemo, radiation, or taking medications that reduce saliva
  • Patients with sensitive teeth — fluoride can also reduce sensitivity

How the treatment works

We typically apply a fluoride varnish — it goes on with a small brush and sets quickly. You can eat about 30 minutes later. There’s no rinsing, no aftertaste sticking around, and the protective benefit lasts for months. We may recommend it at every cleaning, or only when your risk is higher; it depends on your history.

Is it safe?

Professional fluoride is one of the most studied treatments in medicine. Used in a controlled dental setting, it’s safe for children and adults. We’re always happy to talk through your questions — and if a treatment isn’t right for you for any reason, we’ll skip it.

For families

If you’re booking your kids in for a cleaning, ask about fluoride for them. Combined with dental sealants, it’s one of the strongest cavity-prevention combinations there is — and the difference shows up over years of healthier checkups.
