How do I know if a dentist is the right fit?

Trust your gut. A good dentist explains things in plain language, doesn’t pressure you, and makes you feel listened to. We welcome new patients to come in for a quick tour before scheduling — meet the team, see the office, ask anything.

How often should I brush and floss?

Brush twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss once a day. Many patients benefit from an electric toothbrush — Dr. Sanie often recommends a Sonicare. We’ll show you the technique that works best for your mouth at every cleaning.

How often do I need a cleaning?

For most patients, every six months. If you’ve been treated for gum disease, every three or four months for a while. If you have a history of cavities, we may also recommend more frequent fluoride treatments.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Modern digital dental x-rays use very low radiation — far less than older film systems. We only take them when there’s a diagnostic reason. The benefit of catching cavities and infections early significantly outweighs the small exposure.

Do you treat kids?

Yes. We see children of all ages and most family members can be scheduled together to save you a separate trip. For very young children or children with special considerations, we may refer to a pediatric specialist when that’s the kindest option.

What if I have a dental emergency?

Do you take my insurance?

We participate with most major dental plans. The fastest way to confirm is to call us with your card — we’ll verify in a minute. If you don’t have insurance, ask about the Virginia Dental Club.

How much does ___ cost?

We’ll give you a clear written estimate after an exam. Cost varies based on the specifics of your case, your insurance, and the materials chosen. We’ll never start a procedure without you knowing what your portion will be.

What if I’m anxious?
