3D CBCT Imaging

A full 3D view,
before any procedure begins.

Cone Beam CT lets us see your jaw, nerves, and sinuses in three dimensions — so every implant is planned with the precision a flat x-ray simply can’t provide.

What CBCT actually is

CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) is a specialized 3D imaging system designed for dentistry. Unlike a traditional 2D x-ray, it captures the bone, teeth, nerves, and sinuses as a full three-dimensional model that Dr. Sanie can rotate and measure on screen. The scan itself takes about 20 seconds and uses a fraction of the radiation of a medical CT.

Why it matters for implants

  • Bone density and volume. We can see exactly how much healthy bone is available where an implant needs to go.
  • Nerve and sinus locations. Crucial for safe placement, especially in the lower jaw and upper back areas.
  • Virtual surgical planning. Dr. Sanie places the implant digitally on the scan before doing it for real, choosing the ideal angle, depth, and size.
  • Fewer surprises. When the surgical plan is built in 3D, the actual procedure is more predictable and often shorter.
  • Better cosmetic outcomes. The implant ends up where it needs to be for the crown to look natural.

Other uses for CBCT

Beyond implant planning, CBCT is invaluable for evaluating impacted wisdom teeth, locating cracked teeth that don’t show on a regular x-ray, planning complex root canals, and assessing jaw joint problems.

Is it safe?

Yes. CBCT delivers significantly less radiation than a hospital CT scan, and we only use it when the diagnostic information it provides is genuinely needed. The benefit of avoiding a poorly placed implant — and the surgery to correct one — far outweighs the brief, low-dose exposure.

What to expect on scan day

You sit or stand with your head still in a chinrest. The scanner rotates once around your head — the whole capture takes about 20 seconds. There’s no enclosure, no tunnel, and no contrast injection. We review the results with you on a screen so you can see what we see.
